Fukushima monitoring data (Finland & Japan)

Abstract

In Finland, air, fallout and milk samples were collected and analysed following the Fukushima accident. The total fallout of 131I was 35 Bq m-2 and cesium 3.5 Bq m-2. In milk samples no radioactivity was detected. A sampling and a measurement mission to Narita in Japan was executed during 26th and 28th March 2011.
Sampling and monitoring were also conducted in the vicinity of the Hilton hotel Narita and, Narita city centre, especially on the AEON shopping mall. In-situ measurements were made at the Hilton Narita hotel, both inside and outside, in Narita city center and AEON shopping mall. High-resolution gamma spectrometers were used to analyse the swipe, water and vegetable samples. A second mission to Japan took place between 16th and 19th May 2011, when only vegetable samples were collected.
